After receiving two cards, the player draws cards to approach the value 21 without exceeding it. The player’s goal is to beat the dealer by getting a score above it or seeing it over 21. Each player plays against the dealer, who represents the bank or the casino, not against other players.
Card Values in Blackjack
- Each card numbered 2 to 10 has its face value (equal to the number on the card)
- The valets, ladies and kings (the figures) are worth 10 points

The blackjack table
Blackjack is played with 1-8 sets of 52 cards contained in a shoe. In France, the shoes contain 6 sets of cards, 5 cards are burned by the dealer in the early game.
Most blackjack tables have room for 7 players sitting. There are 7 boxes, up to 3 people can play on the same box, but only the player sitting makes the decisions. Each player bets by placing chips in value of the checkbox in front of him.
The betting limits
You will usually find a record for each blackjack table showing the limits of minimum and maximum setting of the table. If the limit of the table shows 2 € -100 €, that means the minimum bet is 2 € and maximum bet is 100 €.
Start a game of blackjack
Once you’ve chosen your table and buy your chips, place your bet on the blackjack table in the circle assigned to you before the dealer deals the cards.
1: The initial distribution of cards
The dealer distributes two cards face up to each player and do distributes one card, discovery (European rule without hole card). In Las Vegas and outside of Europe, the dealer distributes one second hole card (face turned against the table) at this point.
Blackjack cases
There blackjack when the player receives 2 cards worth a total of 21 during the initial deal (an Ace and a 10 or face). If a player has a blackjack, the dealer pays the player immediately to 3:2 (1.5 times the original bet) before continuing with the other players at the table if the dealer has not himself an ace as the first card. In such cases insurance will be given to each player (see the case of insurance). The player wins with a blackjack and a half times his initial bet if the dealer does not have blackjack after distribution of the second card to the dealer. If balckjack in the player and at the dealer, the hand will be declared void and no money will be exchanged.
2: Tour players
After receiving your first two cards and all the blackjack table have been paid whether to pay them, it’s time to start playing. The player to the left of the dealer is the first to speak.
The dealer asks if the player wants another card. You can take (apply for a card) as many times as you want, as long as you do not exceed 21. When you have a total that you find satisfying, you know the dealer that you stay, and play continues with the next player. Some additional options are available, here’s a summary of all possible actions in blackjack:
- Draw a map (in English: HIT): Want to take another card, the dealer you are dealt. In games where the cards are dealt to the shoe, do not forget to indicate the dealer of a hand signal that you want to take a card or called “Map”. If the player shoots and is over 21 he loses his bet.
- Stay (in English: stand) you stay if you are satisfied with your hand, that total is sufficient, you do not want additional cards. Tell the dealer that you have used (e) by delivering to a gesture (horizontal) hand (over your cards) or by saying “Stay.”
- Doubling (English: double) : double your bet and you receive a card, only. In most casinos, you can “double up” only after receiving your first two cards and if they total 9, 10 or 11. This rule may vary according to the casinos in France since March 2007, the casinos can afford to double down on any result. To receive your additional card, tell the dealer that you want to “double”, you simply place a second bet next to the original bet on the box and the dealer will give you one last card.

- Share / Add split / splitter : if the player’s first two cards form a pair, he can separate them into two separate hands, bet the same amount on each of them and play them separately is This is called “doing a split” (sharing maps). All 21 obtained after a split does not count as “Blackjack” because it has not been achieved with the two original maps. The gain is thus limited to the amount equal to the setting involved (and not pay the blackjack 3 to 2).

- Blackjack Split
- Insurance : If the card the dealer is an apparent ace, the player can “take insurance” to guard a blackjack, ie do not bet more than half his original bet. If the dealer’s down card is a 10 or face card, the player wins 2 against 1. If the second card (or hidden card) the dealer is not set to 10, the insurance bet is lost. Here’s a simple trick for players who do not count the cards: Never take insurance, the odds ADVANTAGE home. For card counters: if the TC is 3 or better, we take systematically insurance against an Ace, no matter the hand that is a. More information about insurance .

- Abort (in English: Surrender): give up and lose half the original bet. This option is available in Las Vegas casinos and in some European and French. If it is given, this option the player advantage.
3: The dealer’s turn
The dealer is the last player to act. United States, the dealer uses two cards from the first gives the second card being dealt face down. In France, the dealer uses a card, and uses the second at the end of the tour players. In both cases, the dealer continued to play his hand as a player after the tour players.
In the European version, if the dealer has blackjack, he picks up all the updates, including shares and doubles, except players who also have a blackjack. In the American version, if it happens a blackjack, it does not pick up that initial bids for players who have shared or doubled.
In most casinos, the dealer must continue to pull until it obtains a value of at least 17, it will remain so. If the dealer has a soft 17 (ie, a hand containing an Ace can be counted as “11″ and therefore argues 7 or 17), the house generally requires the dealer to stay. This rule is called “stand soft 17″ or S17. The other rule which requires the dealer’s house to shoot a soft 17 is called “hit soft 17″ or H17. The latter offers an additional advantage at home.
If the dealer jumps, that is to say over 21, all players still in contention to win. Otherwise, players who have a higher total than the dealer win and players who have a lower total lose. In case of a tie, the player’s bet is refunded (money does not change hands).
Once all hands have been paid or that the stakes have been received, a new deal can take place.
